| Folks,
Starting with Version 7.1, you can evaluate almost all features of the Professional or Enterprise Edition in the Free Edition when you use either of the two sample databases - Southwind or JobApplication included in Iron Speed Designer.
You will be able to create all of the page types, with unlimited number of pages, apply Active Directory or other security to your application, create deployment installers, and build SharePoint 2007 or 2010 applications. You can also evaluate multi-lingual applications, Section 508 Compliance, PDF and Word reports, data import, Workflow emails, and third-party controls.
As in all previous versions, there is no limit to the amount of data in your database - so you can also try out loading tens of millions of records to evaluate performance - and this applies to either the sample or your own database.
To evaluate any of the Professional or Enterprise Edition features, create a new application using the Application Wizard, and on the Database step, select one of the two sample databases.
Thanks, Razi

In your post, you said, "You will be able to create all of the page types, with unlimited number of pages, apply Active Directory or other security to your application, create deployment installers, and build SharePoint 2007 or 2010 applications.". How do we do that? I have v7.1, but when I try to use SharePoint as a datasource, it says that it is not available in the Free Edition. (see attached)

"...when you use either of the two sample databases - Southwind or JobApplication included in Iron Speed Designer."
Not any other source such as SharePoint or your own database.
The goal is to provide you a way to evaluate those features. If you want a more complete evaluation, you may consider purchasing a single license prior to rolling it for your team.
Thanks, Razi

Again, as you said in your post...
"when you use either of the two sample databases - Southwind or JobApplication included in Iron Speed Designer.

In fact, you cannot build Sharepoint apps, even if you use the sample databases. This demo app is, in fact, only valid when you want to build ASP.Net apps... NOT Sharepoint, isn't that so?
As you can see in the attachment, those options are greyed out in the demo app.
As for purchasing a license to evaluate the Sharepoint functionality... what is your return policy? If I find that the application does NOT generate a Sharepoint application with my own database - can I get a refund on the license?

Ok - I'll answer my own question for the benefit of anyone else who comes here wanting to know how to generate Sharepoint apps with your demo license...
You MUST have Visual Studio 8 SP1 installed on your machine, and you MUST select .Net 3.5 when you select the type of app to gen.
Once you select .Net 3.5, the Sharepoint choices are no longer greyed out.
A better UI would have been to simply allow the Sharepoint choices under .Net 4, but gen the code in 3.5 (SP 2010 doesn't use .Net 4 yet).
At any rate - I hope I've saved others hours of time dealing with issues such as these simply to evaluate an app...

Yes, you will need to download the latest version of Iron Speed Designer free (7.1.1) and test enterprise features using the sample databases. Kyle- |
