However, email was never delivered.

I tried it and it worked for me.  Did you folks make sure that smtp is working from your machine?

I can send and also receive the test mail while setting up the smtp server using ISD 9.
But lost pw email doesn't get delivered.

That is a bit strange.  Please make sure that you have a valid email field selected in the security wizard and the user who you are validating has the email field populated.  It worked like a charm for me.

I have not tested it with GMail.  Maybe someone can try and post.

Hi,

I was able to use the Iron Speed "Configure Email Server Connection" to set up and test the Google STMP connection.  The "Send test email" worked.

Outgoing mail server (SMTP):  smtp.gmail.com

Server port number: 587

Enabled "This server requires encrypted connection (SSL)

Email Address: name@domainname.com

Use specific user name and password

User Name: name@domainname.com

Password: yourpassword

However, when I use the ForgotUser.aspx to retrieve the password no email is sent.  The application displays a message:  Your password has been emailed to you at name@domainname.com

I'll keep testing.

Best Regards,

Kunos

I experienced the same. Since I swithced to surgemail, I haven't bothered with gmail any more.
One of the reasons could be - as I posted already somewhere -
in ForgotUser.aspx.cs comment out the line (line no: 706):
email.AddFrom(uemail);.

It incorrectly sets the sender's email to the"to" email. (Watch out, full rebuild will uncomment it).

This may (or may not) work with gmail, granted it still may wind up in your user's spam folder.
The above is also necessary if you use other smtp server.

Did anyone ever get a gmail email address to work when sending the forgotten password email? As others have indicated, I can send a test email when configuring the email server and the email is received, but when sending the email via the forgotten password functionality I get the message that the email is sent, but I do not receive it and nor do I see it in that gmail account's sent folder.

Using Gmail SMTP with port 465 unfailingly works for me. However, for large mailing requirement, I always use SendGrid SMTP.

BTW, I am using aspNetEmail utility for the last 12 years in all my mailing methods.

Cheers,
Jimi J
