Here is the reply I just got from Alan:

Quote:

Hi Miles,

Thanks for the alert.  Our former IT guy rebooted the various Azure ‘servers’ yesterday and unfortunately that did not fix the problem as it usually does.  Usually it’s a simple connection pool issue or similar.  So we have a call into Kirill to see if he can take a look.  It looks like a database connectivity issue to me, but we’ll need Kirill to investigate.

Best,

Alan

Ahhh an SQL login issue? Funny that. I had the same problem here for one of our own databases (SQL Server 2012 on 2012 R2).

I had to re-create the logins with new credentials.

If you're having SQL Server issues, just holer. I am sure I and many others here can help.

And yeah if there's a way to "dummy" loop the ACS server in ISD to accept the registration key, that will avoid all of this saga. Besides, in time those Azure servers may suddenly cease!

SO A WARNING TO EVERYONE OF US - MIGRATE TO MVC NOW!

This is really annoying. I have ISD 11 and 12 both blocked from the Internet at the Firewall, as per instructions found elsewhere on this site, and yet this security server crash has still taken down my copy of ISD. I thought I was immune from this crap

Still down.  And I can't seem to run ISD offline.

Message I get when I try to retrieve my license key is

"Unable to connect to database. A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)"

I still cannot run ISD, prompts me to register product key.

I also cannot log in to ISD to obtain my product keys. Get this error below.

Unable to connect to database. A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)

I have not been able to do support since yesterday.

Note to Alan  - can you please get this up for us.

Can someone contact James from AcidYellow in the UK? He did promise in the ISD to MVC seminar that he would be happy to restart or keep the License server running. I don't know him personally, but I am watching the webinar he made.

Hi folks,

License server is up, we just got ours reactivated. Whew!

Still, it'd be a good idea to have a release or a patch for a non License Server reliant version, or any solution at all. Hard to have clients and employers breathing down our necks when this happens.

Big thanks to Alan and everyone else who worked to get the server back up!

Oh, thank goodness my license is reactivated!

I promised an update to a client and I'm relieved that I can work on it now.

Thanks to those in charge for making the license server available again.

PS: I hope the problem doesn't reoccur for a very loooong time. *fingers crossed*

It looks like the HOSTS file hack is the one that works.. I thought the firewall hacks would work, but it seems like they don't, according to some of the posts.

I still think EVERYONE needs to:

1) Set a Windows Restore point regularly.  This will allow you go back to an earlier date when Iron Speed worked.

2) Image your O/S drive.  This will ensure that perpetual means perpetual!

Then either install the HOSTS file hack or unplug your ethernet cable long enough to launch Iron Speed.

The above should mean that you will get years more use out of Iron Speed Designer.

Miles

I don't think depending on unplugging the pc from the internet while launching Iron Speed works.

I know from experience that Iron Speed also attempts a license check when it is Building a project. Maybe it doesn't check every time you build, but during one earlier outages it stopped working well after i had it launched and was using it for several hours.

Hi Dwight,

I wasn't aware of that. I have used Iron Speed previously on a laptop for hours and didn't have any issues.  Are you referring to V 12.2.0?

Would someone kindly share the HOSTS file hack referred to? I guess I missed that information somewhere.
