Regardless if there are solutions, the company is Dead.  That was the only way they could protected any $$$ they had ... including my $5,400.00 I just gave them last week (pretty low of them).

The reason they are dead, is that even if they find a work around, the Patent gives the other party the ability to recoup compensation for prior use.

The only solution I see they have is to open the company in ... Rusia and ignore the patents.  They will find a EU Credit Card processing company and restart.  Hopefully if they do that, they will consider the existing client base and current subscriptions still in effect.

Obviously, we are all looking for other solution.  Got a demo of Code OnTime yesterday ... interesting but a complete different model but could work.  They seem to be around the same area of Iron Speed and knew of the current situation. Maybe they will provide an incentive to ISD users.

Moulay, that is how Code OnTime works ... I have 3 of my developers testing the product.  So far looks good ... and a lot less expensive ...

If code OnTime works just as IS, then it is a matter of time that they will be hit with litigation.  Then you will have to find another one but any company that generates code from a relational database will not be around long.

Has anyone looked at Alpha Anywhere? I just spent about an hour watching videos on their site. It looks interesting, but very different from what we are all used to.

I think there's no need for immediate switch to other equivalent tools. ISD 12 will still work and productive for the next 5 years even beyond. My ISD 5.21 (2008 version) yet works very well with Win 7 and majority of clients prefers it.

We don't need to cry right away, but we need to discern, plan and pray that something even better will happen in His time. For now, we need to master the last 2 ISD versions to optimize fully their real power. I believe that we have only utilized 4 of 12 cylinders ISD power.

Just my 2 cents.

Best strategy for ironspeed.

Buy a company that started a code generation operation business before 2001 and gradually change the product or just add IS technology to it_ -2001 year patent filed.

It is worth it because it will buy the customers as well and that might reduce the expense.

Most importantly, it will let IS make money in the future and that will certainly make sense.

Ontime may be a good one to buy. Companies are worth 5 times their annual income, in general.

Various servers have been up and down all day. Seat server was out for awhile and is now back and indicates the free seats offered.

If you have no great need for the free seats see my post in the developer classifieds to sell them to me I have budget for 20...

For what it's worth, I work for a company that has been generating code and data entry forms since the mid 1990's, but from ER models rater than the relational database. Not sure if that would invalidate the patent though.

It must be tough for IronSpeed to have to make the call to stop. Pity, as we've built heaps of applications with ISD and would continue to do so.

Tim, further down the thread Kirill says that the subscription users will have to purchase a perpetual license to continue...

Guys, hold on to your horses, I don't think a multi million dollar company is just going to disappear like that. I bet ya, they will come back and we may be able to continue our subscriptions.  I would give a year of time.

Hi Kirill , very sad story.
I can imagine your frustration.
I guess this litigation was going on from too long, and I can imagine you tried all solutions.

I would like to know if you are thinking to move ISD to something else.

I also would like to share with you an idea, may be a nonsense and I don't want loose your time, but
using ISD for several years I always thought that a business could be to create and sell templates or custom controls, as already happen for other products.
I don't know if this could be a workaround, but have you considered to make ISD a free and open framework and involve developers to create template and component for it and deploy it through a store ?
I know that is a completely different marketing approach and this require a lot of additional work, but you already have a comunity of developers using your products and ready to collaborate.

Good luck,
Paolo.

Dear Iron Speed User

By now you will have heard that Iron Speed will no longer be developing Iron Speed Designer and discontinuing operations very shortly due to an ongoing lawsuit.

How will this affect you?

  1. Your existing production projects will be unaffected, there is no requirement to have Iron Speed licence to run the live run time application.
  2. Development of your new projects will be limited to the earlier and up to the current latest version (12.2) of Iron Speed. There will be no updates or future releases or bug fixes it seems
  3. The licensing server will be active for years to come (so they say) meaning you can develop without problems.
  4. What is less clear is moving the licence to another machine, usually you deinstall and reinstall on the new PC. However if there are problems then there will be no assistance from Iron Speed into the future
  5. Subscription users may have a problem as they have been advised to buy a perpetual licence (see earlier thread from Kirill), not sure how unless sales is still manned.

My take on this is that internally we shall continue to develop and update our existing projects and may even develop new projects with Iron Speed where its best to do so. We need to see how the dust settles in the next few weeks. Moving forward we a shall migrate our projects across to one of the technologies mentioned below.

We have never been totally Iron Speed, in fact we also use a number of other tools and systems such as:

  1. MVC with Telerik Kendo http://demos.telerik.com/kendo-ui/
  2. LLBLGen https://www.llblgen.com/
  3. M# http://www.msharp.co.uk/
  4. Visual Studio C# & VB

So you can either convert your apps to a new tool such as I mention above

Or

Continue with Iron Speed Designer.

Either way we can help. We offer:

  1. All versions of Iron Speed Support
  2. Seasoned professional developers with many years’ experience with Iron Speed, Microsoft dev tools, databases and utilities and all things web (JQuery, HTML5, CSS etc etc)
  3. Database design and migration specialists
  4. MS Office solutions and integration
  5. Ability to understand business problems and turn them into top class web based solutions.
  6. Determination and resilience to get things done

Your choices:

  1. If you decide that its best in the long run to migrate your Iron Speed projects we can take your existing Iron Speed project files (any version)  and database (SQL Server, MySQL or Access) and migrate it into a viable, long term project using one of the technologies mentioned above (or other if you have a favourite). We guarantee it will be the same or better!
  2. Sign up with us for ongoing Iron Speed support, technical assistance, bug workarounds, coding tips, solutions,  in fact any issue that will give you piece of mind moving forward. We offer phone, email, GotoMeeting and sit down side by side support.

Please feel free to contact us for further information or advice.

Kind regards

Tim
